Is Jedi 3 Actually Confirmed? Here's What We REALLY Know ⚔️

Cal Kestis and BD-1 resting beside a fire pit

Cal Kestis has quietly become my favorite character in this galaxy, movies included, and that's probably why I can't just skim the Jedi 3 headlines and move on. With all the Sith spinoff wishlists, leak threads and podcast hot takes floating around, it's easy to lose track of one basic question: Has Star Wars Jedi 3 actually been confirmed?

Short answer: yes.

But almost everything beyond that gets a lot murkier. So let's talk through it.

What's Actually Confirmed

The clearest official confirmation came during EA's Investor Day on September 17, 2024. EA entertainment and technology president Laura Miele said Respawn was working hard to bring players the "final chapter" of Cal Kestis's story. That is the company's most direct confirmation that a third Star Wars Jedi game is in development.

Cameron Monaghan had already said it publicly a year earlier. During a September 2023 panel at Ocala Comic Con, he told the audience, "We're working on the third, and we're in the process of doing it right now." He called it a big undertaking and said conversations had already begun.

I also got the chance to see Cameron at Comic Con Wales. When the future of Cal Kestis came up during the panel, his answer was brief: "We'll see." That little answer and the look that came with it definitely got the room talking. I shared the moment in my Comic Con Wales reel.

Respawn offered another small confirmation in April 2025, saying it remained focused on building new stories with the next installment of Star Wars Jedi. So here's what is actually confirmed: a third game exists, it is in development at Respawn, and EA considers it the final chapter of Cal's story. Its title, story details, gameplay, and release timing remain unannounced.

What's Still Just Speculation

No title has been announced. No gameplay has been shown. No release date, release window, or even a season has been confirmed. As recently as July 2026, reports still described it as a project EA had not formally unveiled beyond acknowledging its development.

Podcast hosts and industry commentators have floated possible 2026 release windows. Other reports have pointed toward 2027, sometimes based on clues like ongoing narrative hiring at Respawn. None of those dates comes from EA or Respawn directly. They are speculation from people trying to piece together a picture from limited public information.

Picking Up Where Survivor Left Off

Spoiler alert: this section covers major story details from Star Wars Jedi: Survivor's ending. Skip ahead to the next section if you haven't finished the game yet.

I actually came into this series backwards. I played Survivor first, no real context on who Cal was, and I still ended up completely wrapped up in him. So when I talk about that ending, I mean it hit me at full force with zero buildup, and it still wrecked me.

Survivor closed with Cal losing Cere Junda to Darth Vader, having to fight and ultimately kill Bode Akuna, someone he'd trusted as a friend, and drawing on the Dark Side during that final confrontation. That's not a small thing for a character whose entire journey has been about holding onto hope. Cal's breakdown in that final stretch is, hands down, the single moment in either game that hit me hardest. Watching a Jedi actually crack under the weight of a fight that never lets up, in a way that felt genuinely raw instead of neatly written, is not something I expected going in, and it's the exact moment I became fully, permanently attached to this character. He ends the game grieving, changed, and now responsible for Bode's daughter Kata, with a new home for the Hidden Path on Tanalorr finally within reach.

That's a lot of unresolved weight for a final chapter to pick up, and honestly, that's exciting. Respawn has never shied away from letting Cal's story get heavy, and the studio has consistently proven it knows how to handle emotional stakes with real craft. Cal isn't the same wide-eyed Padawan from Fallen Order anymore, and he's not even the same person who started Survivor. He's someone who has now touched the Dark Side and come back from it, at real cost, and that's the kind of complex character work Respawn has made a specialty.

What We're Hoping to See in Cal's Character Development

Given where Survivor left him, I'm hoping Jedi 3 gives real attention to that moment. Cal reaching for the Dark Side to save Merrin felt like a genuinely meaningful turn for the character, and I'd love to see it explored further, both narratively and in who Cal becomes going forward. He's earned a story that actually sits with that instead of moving past it.

I'm also hoping for real closure with Kata. Cal made her a promise, and watching him step into a mentor or protector role, the same kind of role Cere once played for him, feels like a natural and meaningful place for his arc to land. After three games of loss, I am rooting so hard for Cal to actually get to keep something, or someone, for once. He deserves that.

The 2026 reference book Star Wars: The Secrets of the Jedi: The Chronicles of Luke Skywalker also gives us a fun connection to think about. In a journal entry, Luke names "Master Jaro Tapal's Padawan Cal Kestis" as one of the Jedi who escaped Order 66. That confirms Luke eventually knew about Cal, but it does not confirm that they met or that Luke will appear in Jedi 3. Purely as my own wishful thinking, I'd love to see that thread explored someday.

Mostly, I just want the ending to feel earned, and given Respawn's track record, I have every confidence it will. Fallen Order and Survivor earned strong critical and fan responses because of the care this team puts into Cal's story. This is a character who started out as a scared kid hiding on a scrapyard planet and became someone capable of touching real darkness and still choosing to come back. That's not a small arc. That's the kind of writing that made me fall for him in the first place. I trust Respawn to give him the send-off he deserves, and given everything the team has built with this character across two games, I could not be more excited to see where they take him.

Cameron Monaghan

Cameron Monaghan and Mark Hamill working on Star Wars Jedi Survivor performance capture

I don't think Cal Kestis works nearly as well as he does without Cameron Monaghan. He's not just voicing Cal, he's doing full motion capture too, meaning every flinch, every exhausted slump of the shoulders, every unhinged half smile Cal gives right before a fight, that's Monaghan's actual physical performance, not just a voiceover layered on top of an animator's best guess.

What gets me is the range. Fallen Order Cal has this nervy, almost twitchy energy, a kid trying to hold it together while actively terrified of being found out. Monaghan plays that fear so convincingly it's uncomfortable in the best way. Then Survivor happens, and he has to play someone hardened, someone who's been fighting a losing war for five straight years, and the shift is night and day without ever feeling like a different character. That's a genuinely hard thing to pull off, aging a performance forward without losing the thread of who someone is underneath.

And then there's the breakdown. I've said it already, but it bears repeating here specifically because of how much of that moment is Monaghan and not the script. The dialogue could have been fine on paper and still landed flat with a lesser performance. Instead you get this raw, cracking desperation that makes Cal's turn toward the Dark Side feel earned instead of like a plot beat the story needed to hit.

Cal Kestis is one of my favorite performances in this whole series, and it's wild to me that a video game performance doesn't get talked about with the same weight as other kinds of acting work, because this deserves it. Whatever Jedi 3 asks of him next, I have zero doubts he'll deliver.

Sorting Fact From Rumor

With a game this anticipated, there's no shortage of theories to chew on, and that's a genuinely good sign for how much people care about this franchise. Leakers, podcast hosts, and industry insiders all bring fun speculation to the table, and it's part of what makes waiting for news like this enjoyable. A "solid chance" comment on a podcast gets people talking about release windows. A job listing turns into a fun little clue to dissect. That's half the fun of following a game like this, and it speaks to just how much trust this fanbase has built up in Respawn's ability to deliver.

The trick is knowing which claims trace back to EA, Respawn, or the people directly involved, and which ones are smart, entertaining guesswork from people who watch this industry closely. Right now, the list of confirmed facts is short: the game exists, it is in development, and EA has called it the final chapter of Cal's story. Everything else, including dates, tone, and gameplay direction, is still genuinely unknown.

So if you've seen a range of release date guesses floating around, that's not you missing something. That's just the fun, speculative side of following a game before it's officially unveiled. A third game is real and confirmed. Everything about when we'll see it and what it'll actually be is still genuinely up in the air, and honestly, that's part of what makes it exciting to follow.

Cal's been through more than most characters in this galaxy ever have to, and he's still standing at the end of it. Whatever Jedi 3 turns out to be, whenever it actually arrives, I'll be right there on day one, ready to see this story through with him.
