Star Wars Celebration Is Coming Home: LA 2027 and the 50th Anniversary Blowout

Mark your calendars, because the galaxy far, far away is heading back to Los Angeles. Star Wars Celebration will land at the Los Angeles Convention Center from April 1 to 4, 2027, and this isn't just another stop on the con circuit. It's the 50th anniversary of Star Wars: A New Hope, and Lucasfilm is treating it like the milestone it is.

And for us here at Lore Detour Podcast, this one hits different. We're based in Southern California, which means the biggest Star Wars celebration in fifty years is happening in our actual backyard. No cross country flights, no hotel points strategy, just a short drive to be in the room for it. We're already talking about how to cover this one, and we want you along for the ride.

Why LA, Why Now

The announcement came during the closing ceremonies of Celebration Japan, and the location matters more than it might seem at first glance. This will be the first time Celebration has touched down in Los Angeles since 2006. For a franchise with deep roots in Southern California filmmaking and effects work, bringing the anniversary celebration back to the region feels less like a scheduling decision and more like a homecoming. Fifty years ago, a scrappy space opera changed movies forever. Fifty years later, it's coming back to celebrate near the industry that helped bring it to life.

Who's Already Confirmed

Lucasfilm has already started rolling out an absolutely stacked guest list, and it reads like a reunion tour across every era of the franchise.

From the animation side, the Ghost crew from Star Wars Rebels is assembling: Freddie Prinze Jr. (Kanan Jarrus), Vanessa Marshall (Hera Syndulla), Tiya Sircar (Sabine Wren), Taylor Gray (Ezra Bridger), and Steve Blum (Zeb Orrelios), plus Jim Cummings as the ever-scheming Hondo Ohnaka.

The Clone Wars trio is also reuniting, with Ashley Eckstein, James Arnold Taylor, and Matt Lanter returning as Ahsoka Tano, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Anakin Skywalker. Dee Bradley Baker and Michelle Ang will represent Clone Force 99 from The Bad Batch.

Live action fans have plenty to look forward to too. Hayden Christensen and Ian McDiarmid are attending, with Christensen marking his ongoing legacy as Anakin and Vader and McDiarmid bringing the Emperor's presence to the anniversary festivities. Giancarlo Esposito, Katee Sackhoff, and Emily Swallow are returning as Moff Gideon, Bo-Katan Kryze, and the Armorer, and Brendan Wayne and Lateef Crowder, who bring Din Djarin's physical performance to life alongside Pedro Pascal, will also be there.

And in a detail that feels perfectly timed for a 50th anniversary, Anthony Daniels will attend as C-3PO, the character he debuted in the original film and has played across ten Star Wars films.

The Lore Angle

Here's what makes this Celebration worth digging into on the show: it's not just a nostalgia lap. The guest list spans original trilogy legacy (Daniels, McDiarmid), prequel-era stories (Christensen, Ahmed Best), the animation renaissance that built out so much of current canon (Rebels and Clone Wars casts), and the modern live-action era (The Mandalorian ensemble). That's basically the entire timeline of how Star Wars built its lore, standing in one convention hall.

For anyone who tracks how the Expanded Universe, canon, and screen continuity have folded into each other over five decades, LA 2027 is shaping up to be a working reunion of the people who built that mythology piece by piece.

Who Are We Missing?

The confirmed list is already stacked, but every great guest wave makes you think about who hasn't been announced yet. A few names we're hoping to see land on the roster before April 2027:

Ewan McGregor, whose Obi-Wan has bridged the prequel trilogy and his own limited series while connecting that era to the original trilogy. A 50th anniversary panel with him in the room would be huge.

Cameron Monaghan, who brought Cal Kestis to life across the Jedi: Fallen Order and Jedi: Survivor games. Video game guests don't always get the Celebration spotlight they deserve, and Cal has become a genuinely important character in current canon.

Someone from the Andor cast, whether that's Diego Luna, Genevieve O'Reilly, or Stellan Skarsgard. That show reshaped what people expect from Star Wars storytelling, and a panel digging into its lore connections would be a perfect fit for a 50th anniversary lineup.

And honestly, any surprise original trilogy face we haven't seen on a Celebration stage in a while. Fifty years in, there are still names fans would lose it over.

So tell us: who's on your wishlist? Drop it in the comments or hit us up on the podcast's socials. We want to hear who you're hoping gets that surprise announcement email.

What's Next

More guest waves, panel details, and merchandise reveals are expected in the run-up to April 2027. We'll keep tracking the announcements as they land and break down what each one means for the wider Star Wars story.
